Surgery with the daVinci Robot Patient

“I’m so glad that Queen of the Valley had the da Vinci Robot. I would never have been able to get back to my life so quickly without it.” As a mother of two young boys, personal trainer Susan Sange knew she couldn’t afford a lengthy recovery after her surgery. That’s why she chose the da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgical System at Queen of the Valley Medical Center. As a mother of two young boys, personal trainer Susan Sange knew she couldn't afford a lengthy recovery after her surgery. That's why she chose the da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgical System at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Susan Sange has been a fitness professional for over 17 years. So when she started having constant pain in her abdomen and feeling tired all the time she knew something was wrong. A trip to the doctor's office confirmed what she had long suspected- Susan had cystic fibroids, a condition many women in her family had faced before her.

Although the decision to undergo a hysterectomy at 35 was not an easy one to make, Susan found comfort and reassurance in knowing that she had the option of choosing the da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgical System at Queen of the Valley Medical Center. The pinpoint accuracy of the robot and its minimally invasive technique offered Susan less pain and a faster recovery cycle. "Being active is the nature of my life. My career requires me to lift weights and be on my feet for hours. Also trying to keep up with my boys can be an adventure. So, the choice was clear; I needed a quick recovery time."

Knowing that her procedure would be performed by one of the national leaders on robotic surgery, Susan felt relieved. "Dr. Kirk and his staff were wonderful. They gave me all the information I needed to make the right choice for me, and my family. Once the surgery was over and I could go home, they took the time to talk to my husband and prepare him for my recovery time at home. We were so impressed with the care and the level of expertise at the Queen."

After three weeks of recovery Susan went back to work at Synergy A Medical Fitness Center. But what made her the happiest is that after six weeks she was back to running after her boys.
